Deloitte Recruiting Video

This 2 minute 11 second recruiting video is quite good. It is focused on millenials…for entry level (starting your career). They speak only to this age group in this video and what is important to them (at least what we are told at in recruiting conferences and workshops). There is also a strong focus on diversity (which is important to millenials).

This kind of video gives them a huge edge over companies just pushing their job description. The best and brightest would be attracted. In the four months it has been published on YouTube, it has been viewed over 3,000 times. They wisely also show off their award…”BusinessWeek ranked Deloitte #1 on its 2009 list of Best Places to Launch a Career. Watch to see why our people agree.”

Outside Sales Position Recruiting Video

This video is a little over a minute long. You hear from the hiring manager and boss for this position…also in the video you see such a territory sales person at work. The hiring manager explains what the position entails…and that they have a great atmosphere and training program.

I like how you get to meet your would-be boss and see someone at work. I didn’t hear about what makes this company great to work for…it was rather weak in showing why I would want to work for them. Likely, all this information is on the job description – what is expected in duties, great atmosphere, training program, etc. When a recruiting video is produced, the goal is to give a more full inside look into the company – far more than what the job description would say.

Airline Recruiting Video (Testimonial style)

This 3 minute 16 second video that talks about how they are a company where the people love it there, have fun, and it is like a family. If I was hearing from an executive or someone in HR, I would not believe it…but this video is comprised of testimonials from 15 employees. Everyone with full names and years there…so it feels very real. This is a great video…makes me want to work for them (too bad they don’t really exist in Minnesota).

From hearing from so many employees…you get a feel for the people who work there and what kind of people they are. You can get a feel for their culture. It is important to convey the culture and employer brand, because (as recruiters) we want to hire people who fit our culture.

Would you be more likely to apply to the company after seeing this video?

“Quietly Recruiting” Video

This is a 1 minute recruiting video by an investment banking company. It talks about them being underneath the radar (not being known well) and they are snatching all the best people up (by abduction in the video).

It is cute…perhaps funny…but does it influence you to apply to this company? I suppose if you are really good (one of the best) and are egotistical about it, then you may think you should apply here. But if you are really smart, would you really believe a commercial telling you this is where all the brightest are going?

After watching it, I had no inclination to go look at their job postings. I learned nothing about the company…other than they don’t mind spending a large budget on producing a commercial for their recruiting efforts. The only motivation given was “we are stealing the best people.” Every company says they are recruiting the best. I was a recruiter for a decade (in corporate and in an agency)…I have worked with hundreds of companies…they all say they are trying to hire (or steal) the best people. What kind of incentive is that to go look at their job postings? Does it get you to see yourself working there…at all?

Retail Shift Manager Job Tour (Recruiting Video)

This is a short, 1 minute 53 second video of a retail manager at Walmart. She tells us about what she does all day, why she chose this career, and pursued this opportunity. She also covers important skills and abilities to succeed in this position.

This is a great “inside look” into a position in a company. Someone who is already in the position and successful telling us about what it is like and what is done. This video should increase the quality of candidates who apply because if the video is produced well – the wrong people won’t be interested in this position once they see the video and the right people will be more interested after seeing the video. As someone who has been a recruiter, we receive a lot of resumes and have to sort through huge piles. A well thought out and produced video could decrease the number applicants while increasing quality of applicants.
