This is almost 30 seconds…and a total waste of time. Don’t ever think about making videos like this for your company. Nothing was really said…it wasn’t a very good testimonial. “I had a shoulder that hurt and it affected my elbow…he fixed it…and it feels really good now…thanks.” That was the video.

How did he find this chiropractor? Why did he choose this chiropractor over a competitor? What makes going to this chiropractor special? Or…how about more detail about what the injury was? There isn’t even in this video to say there is any kind of story. There isn’t any additional information gained about this chiropractor gained by watching this video. There isn’t even anything given to overcome objections about using a chiropractor or specifically this chiropractor.

Am I being too hard…or does this video do anything for you?

This 3 minute 16 second video that talks about how they are a company where the people love it there, have fun, and it is like a family. If I was hearing from an executive or someone in HR, I would not believe it…but this video is comprised of testimonials from 15 employees. Everyone with full names and years there…so it feels very real. This is a great video…makes me want to work for them (too bad they don’t really exist in Minnesota).

From hearing from so many employees…you get a feel for the people who work there and what kind of people they are. You can get a feel for their culture. It is important to convey the culture and employer brand, because (as recruiters) we want to hire people who fit our culture.

Would you be more likely to apply to the company after seeing this video?

This is a 9 minute and 37 second video...I was asleep by 1 minute 23 seconds. This is a very bad video. Don't use this as a model or try to do something like this.

This is a 9 minute and 37 second video…I was asleep by 1 minute 23 seconds. This is a very bad video. Don’t use this as a model or try to do something like this. It is WAY to long…and moves too slowly. Think of online video as giving just the bullet points…the high points of the story…not a complete reading of some long novel that rambles and never gets to the point.

I expect very few people make it to the end of the video (I did because I had to reach the end to talk about it). I’ve seen surveys about video engagement that say at the 3 minute mark 50% of the viewers who started the video have stopped watching. Some of the content was good, but this video could have been 2 minutes long and been much more effective.

Some may believe having any testimonial is better than not having one at all. In this instance…not having one would be better. It did not make me have any more confidence in this lawyer…actually parading this sad story in such detail for his own gain makes me think worse of this lawyer. Not to mention the video was over exposed and had other technical issues. This video hurts this lawyer more than helps…in my opinion.

This is about a 1 minute video for a carpet cleaning service. You get to meet the owner...she says they use the best chemicals and have a 99% return customers. You get to hear from one of her satisfied customers. So this video combines "about us" with a client testimonial. Lastly, she covers spot removal and there is no need to replace your carpet because of stain spots.

This video is OK, but could have been better with a call to action. Also, whoever added the text or whoever was responsible for reviewing the video should be fired. The video ends with “neapolis – Carpet Cleaning – Cardinal Cleaning Comp”. Both the beginning and the end is cut off. There really is no excuse for this. Always…always…review the video once it is online to make sure it looks right!

This is a 3 minute and 42 second video…interviewing 4 people for testimonials. I must say…this video is too long. I lost interest after a couple minutes. Each person said similar things and the similar things seemed to be grouped together. I would have made four one-minute videos out of this.

Content can not be repetitive in a video…or viewers become bored and stop watching. For multiple people, each person should have covered different points…or at least not re-cover anything said earlier in the video. Brevity is important in a video as well. I try not to make anything longer than 3 minutes…and I am finding more studies making me think 2 minutes or less might be better.

So although I don’t know if the majority will watch the video to the end (engagement might be a little low)…this is still a good video because what clients will say about you is very powerful. I just think 4 shorter, more focused videos would be a better format.
